A COMPOSITE FINITE ELEMENT FORMULATION USING EMBEDDED STRONG DISCONTINUITY APPROACH IN REINFORCED CONCRETE STRUCTURAL MEMBERS
Keywords: Reinforced concrete, coupled problem, discontinuous displacement, strain localization; mixture theory
This work presents a framework based on the embedded strong discontinuities, for additive elasto-plasticity coupled to anisotropic damage, to model reinforced concrete members. The concept of mixture theory is used to represent the reinforced concrete behavior, which is constituted by plain concrete with multiple steel rebars in different directions. The composite material failure is determined by the discontinuous bifurcation analysis, in function of the eigen-values of the composite smoothing-acoustic tensor. The numerical solution is obtained with the composite model proposed here, and is validated through of experimental results.
