Abstract: Nonclassical continuum mechanics theories have been of great interest to researchers because of the recent growth in the use of nanomaterials for MEMS and NEMS devices. In the several existing theories, Eringen’s nonlocal theory is most popular among researchers because of its ease of implementation and seemingly accurate results for specific loading conditions and boundary conditions. Eringen’s integral nonlocal theory results in a set of integro-partial differential equations, which are difficult to solve. So, the integral form was reduced to a set of singular partial differential equations using a Green-type attenuation function. We study the vibrational characteristics such as eigenfrequencies and mode shapes of a finite bar using Eringen’s type model.
