Description:

Triangular cross section loaded by single compressive force.

What can be modified:
  • dimensions and shape of the cross section,
  • location of the center of compression.
Notice:
  • if the center of compression is inside the cross section core, the neutral axis is completely outside the cross section (i.e. there is only compressive stress in the entire cross section),
  • if the center of compression is oustside the cross section core, the neutral axis crosses the cross section (i.e. there is also tensile stress caused by compressive force),
  • if the center of compression is on the edge of the crosss section core, the neutral axis crosses the oposite vertex of the cross section (but otherwise it is outside the cross section),
  • if the center of compression is on the vertex of the crosss section core, the neutral axis equals the opposite edge of the cross section,
  • if the center of compression is on the principal axes of inertia, the neutral axis is perpendicular to this axis.
